Good Skate Sharpening
What a great question - how can you tell whether you are getting a good skate sharpening or not?
The following three items will help you know whether you are getting a good quality skate sharpening.
Skates should have even edge heights. Any visible unevenness is not acceptable. That's what the BR100 Edge Checker is made for.
Sharp edges give confident turning and stopping abilities. CAREFULLY use your thumb or thumbnail to GENTLY check for sharpness by brushing your thumb at different points along the length of the blade. Brush perpendicular to the blade. If it slightly scrapes - it's sharp.
The skating surface should be shiny and smooth. Any visible lines should run parallel to the skating direction, be faint and barely noticeable. If you see any lines that run perpendicular to the skating surface, it will impact performance. There will be more friction while gliding.
