Flat Bottom: New Architecture
Blademaster’s BFD system optimizes the trade-off between bite and glide. We have reduced the area between the “flat” portion of the skate blade and the ice. This reduces the build up of ice/snow/water and improves gliding. However, we have done so without compromising the strength and integrity of the sharpened edges. Blademaster edges retain a partial radius because …
- the benefits of an arch (radius) design have been recognized for thousands of years. Throughout history, the arch has always been a significant design element for load bearing structures.
- the structural benefit of an arch is that it transfers the load being suspended into compressive forces along the pathway of the arch. There are no tensile forces over the suspended shape.
- Blademaster is the only manufacturer to utilize radiused transition points on our dressing wheels to strengthen the edge created on the blade. This allows better edge retention which means you get more hours on the ice before requiring sharpening.
Skate blades with square even edges that radius into a FLAT BOTTOM will retain their edge longer than straight edges with a stressed concentration point. Radiused edges – when used in conjunction with a flat bottom will feel like a progressive bite and give the skater more control over the bite angle.
With the Blademaster BFD – ALL THREE OPTIONS have enhanced glide and three different choices for bite. This will always be left to an individual skater’s preference.
Blademaster BFD rolls combine the bite of deeper hollows with the increased glide of a shallower hollow.
Whether it's Radius of Hollow (ROH) or FLAT BOTTOM (BFD), the choice is still personal preference. For the most repeatable and dependable FLAT BOTTOM sharpening on the market ... Trust BLADEMASTER!
