What does a form dresser do?
- It shapes the grinding wheel: A form dresser or a multi-purpose form dresser, is used to reshape the grinding wheel.
- It transfers the radius: The dresser is pressed against the face of the spinning grinding wheel, transferring its precise radius to the grinding wheel's surface.
- It prepares for sharpening: This ensures that the grinding wheel has the correct curvature to create the desired radius of hollow (RoH) on the skate blade when it's sharpened.
- It ensures consistency: Using a form dresser ensures that the RoH is consistent and accurate for every sharpening session, a key factor for high-level players.
Why it is important
- For precision: A form dresser provides an accurate result for consistent sharpening.
- For performance: The radius of the hollow affects performance. A deeper hollow provides more bite, while a shallower one allows for more glide and speed. A form dresser allows for precise control over this setting.
- For new techniques: Form dressers can also be used for newer techniques, like our BFD "flat bottom" sharpening system, and aims to provide a balance between speed and maneuverability.
